Much thanks to Shadowmaster for his updates and what not these past couple months.
Donation Subscriptions: Active subscriptions from this month have been processed. I realize that there are many that are behind. Make sure
you have ONE and only ONE recent ticket open about your subscription with "DP" in the subject and I will get to it as soon as I can
(this week).
Kicked the training program back into action after an error and you should see all the results from any battles/training you've had
or done.
Arena sim reported as down but appears to be working ok to me. Please report further problems.
Fixed a long standing but overlooked error with heat sinks being partially repaired.
5/11/2009
War: War is currently disabled while we straighten everything out. We do not want any of the events of the past week to unfairly help or
hurt anyone in an engagement, and there are many services that are currently not working, partially working, or unstable. Once we have the game back
to pre-downtime status war will be reinstated.
Donation points awarded in the past 2 weeks have been restored. If there are any problems please submit a help ticket once tickets are brought
back online. We will be carefully auditing these, so if you got points that you shouldn't have, please report it immediately.
Repair facility technology will now be listed correctly on the tech tree.
Imporatante: If you are reading this then you are well aware that we are back up and running...sort of. Please read the main page for the
status on what works and what doesn't. To save us the trouble of answering the invetible (and redundant) questions and problems that have cropped up
Help Tickets have been disabled. Everything you need to know is listed on the front page, and as we get more specifics we will post them either here
or on the front page. If you made a new empire in the past 2 weeks it is most likely gone and will not be restored. Please make a new empire. All
the steps that can be taken to ensure that this will not happen again are being taken, as well as a more comprehensive emergency backup plan for Neveron
to ensure that a recent database will always be in a secure location.
Thank you all for your support through this interesting and troubling time on Neveron. We now have a very secure firewall in place and running (at great
expense) and have updated our network security and anti-virus protections on all our computers. Additionally, we have a much better working knowledge of
network security and are better equipped to deal with problems as they arise, and prevent problems from happening in the future. This is the only time
in the 3 years of the game that we have had to make a full restore from a backup, and we are working very hard to make it the last.
Almost all the updates listed since the 15th are still in effect. Those that were changed with the rollback are being restored over the next several
days.
Happy Halloween 'n stuff...
10/31/03
Fixed a bug which was causing mech limbs to multiply
Completed the feature allowing secondary logins which are properly enabled to send money (if a faction leader) to other empires.
Fixed another problem with restrictions.
Fixed a major bug with restrictions. Empires were sometimes showing as restricted incorrectly or inconsistently.
Fixed a bug preventing the emperor from sending money to other people in the empire.
10/25/03
Two login permissions were added for secondary logins, the abilities to transfer money within your empire, and for empires which are faction
leaders, the ability to transfer money to other empires. Although both can be set right now, only the ability to transfer money within your
empire is fully implemented. If you enable this option, on the Finance / Transfer page the secondary login will have an option to
use empire funds instead of personal funds for money transfers. In this manner secondary logins can send themselves funds from the empire,
or send any other player login within the empire funds. Use this carefully, as the the emperor has no ability to force secondary login players
to return the money thus sent, and there is no limit on the amount which they can transfer. Remember that you can always set allowances to
regulate how much money goes to particular logins on a daily basis.
Added a lost-empire recovery feature. If you have the primary login for the empire, as defined on your Manage Logins page, you will
ALWAYS be attached to that empire. They can never be separated for any reason. If you give the empire away, you must give the login with it,
since no other login will ever have full control over the empire. By marrying a login to the emperor of an empire, ownership questions can
never arise. If for some reason all the claimed characters of the emperor login are unclaimed (either through death or voluntary unclaiming),
the next time you login the empire will be reassociated with your login and the emperor claimed. Or, in the case of emperor death, a new
emperor will be selected and claimed. You are then redirected back to the intro page where logging in again will return you to your empire.
If a different login had claimed the emperor in the meantime, they will be removed as emperor. Even if some other login claims your emperor
for any reason, that login will NEVER have the ability to change the primary login as listed on the Manage Logins page. Remember, if you give
someone the login/password of your primary login you are giving the empire away. I would suggest that everyone who has given out their primary login
in the past should now set a new password. I am working to implement more powerful pilot logins which will allow your friends to help you
fight wars and manage your empire without the need for sharing the primary login. I recognize that large empires need more than one player
running them and in the past this has been accomplished by sharing login/password information. DO NOT DO THIS. The new pilot login
abilities will provide a solid system for multi-player empires without compromising the security of your login.
10/24/03
Fixed a bug where vehicles were often not displaying their available ammo on their data page.
Added a "create new login" link on the Manage Logins page. This allows you to create a new login for your empire without
opening the empire up for the public to join.
The login management for your empire has been moved to a new page, accessible through the Empire Settings page. This is only accessible to
emperors. Although the layout is slightly different, you may still increase or decrease the maximum rank of claimable personell for various
non-emperor logins, evict players from your empire, and set whether or not new players may join your empire.
10/23/03
A player was just fined $500,000,000 to each of his level 7 empires for being over the 5-empire limit. All his excess empires have been removed.
Warning! There will soon be a policy change preventing players from logging into empires as the emperor unless they own that empire. This will
mean that you can't "hand over" your empire to a friend to babysit for you, or fight for you. There will be an option to expand the power of a
pilot login to encompass almost every function of the emperor, but ultimate authority will be tied directly to a single player.
10/20/03
Fixed a bug where cheap units attacking expensive units in arenas were not paying the extra fee as indicated in the details and the popup message.
The actual amount deducted was often well below the correct value. This has been corrected and the displayed and confirmed value is what will actually
be charged.
10/18/03
Terrain creation is working again .. for now. When the expanded database fills again, we will have to seek a more permanent solution.
Abandoned arena fights where the total BV drops below zero will be deleted. Units will be sent home and no prize money will be awarded.
Fixed a bug where moving units between zones would sometimes incorrectly show it to be overland movement when in fact it should be LC movement.
Fixed a bug wherein AI units fired at units which were not spotted.
Fixed a bug wherein AI units ignored minimum range penalties.
Indirect Fire has been coded for IDF weapons. Indirect Fire is at +2 to hit.
10/17/03
Tech Tree Update: Repair facilities have been added to the technology tree as a research topic. You may now get direction to achieving a
repair facility by choosing that option from the list.
Updated 3200 mech pilots that did not have their proper mech preference set. This should fix a lot of problems people were having with units
not changing skills when they should, or changing skills when they shouldn't if they are put into a new mech.
AI units will now move the phase that a battle begins. This means no more waiting for the timer to run down the first phase of a large AI attack.
Restrictions Bug: Fixed multiple bugs with empire restrictions and empire levels being shown (and used) improperly on the map. War and restrictions should
operate properly now.
Fixed a bug that was preventing AI from working properly in certain instances.
Fixed a bug that would kick you out of the game if your emperor had no unit while trying to change your personalized unit text.
10/14/03
Only CLAIMED PEOPLE show in the resurrection list on the Donate page. If you have a person killed who is not claimed in the battle, they will
NOT show.
Bug Reports: We really appreciate people sending us so many detailed bug reports, but we often get many for the same thing, or often
begin investigating a bug that has already resolved. If you write in a bug report but find that the situation has been corrected or made obsolete
(for instance that a bugged unit was destroyed and is no longer an issue or that a page that was not working properly has started working again) it
is a HUGE help to us if you cancel your help ticket. This can be done by looking at the ticket in your "Open Tickets" page and hitting the obvious
cancel button. This saves us a large amount of time we waste by having to figure out for ourselves that someone's bug is no longer a problem.
Some bugs regarding the new mech falling code were fixed. Please report any new instances in a help ticket.
AI units will continue to move toward a unit which was previously spotted if sensor contact is lost.
Units on AI will now be more effective in selecting search patterns for zone with no enemy units spotted.
AI mechs which are jump capable will now employ jump jets when necessary to move more quickly through terrain or over buildings.
AI mechs will now generate heat when moving.
Firing soldiers will no longer affect people with money. You will need to transfer the cash off those people to fire them.
Fixed a problem with the resources/mine page.
Fixed a bug with the war server which was keeping people from being able to wage war or look at the map.
Fixed a bug with removing ammunition from the marketplace.
Replenishing infantry units will now look for people with no money on them.
Deleted 300 bugged vehicles that had been partially killed.
Fixed a stack of bugged towers from last weeks bug. Empires with more than a couple bugged towers were given new towers to replace them.
Quest Reminder: There are currently 4 quests that run daily for empires of all levels. Please check the Tournaments section of the
Arena page for deatils.
Fixed a bug with removing infantry weapons from the marketplace.
Fixed an occaisional bug with mech buying.
Fixed a bug with the tech tree if you had nothing currently being researched.
10/13/03
Significantly increased the odds of finding mines in unclaimed zones for all types of mine except Basic Metals.
Fixed a few severe bugs from last night concerning mines, terrain, and battle.
10/12/03
Fixed a bug with creating vehicles.
Thanks to all those who responded about the English major. We are all set.
Added links to the items listed on the Stats page (the left hand frame of yoru main screen) with brief help topics about each item.
Challenge arenas are now fully functional for empires who are over their arena caps. You may now also view ongoing arenas as per normal,
though you may not attacks them.
Deleted 2 level 0's and fined a level 1 for cheating in the arenas. Please read all the Rules carefully on the Admin page and remember that
duels between empires that you control is strictly illegal.
10/10/03
Mechs who lose a leg will automatically fall. If the piloting checks are all made (with appropriate large penalties) then the
mech will not take damage from the fall, but will still end up on the ground.
Fixed a problem with moving units out of enemy zone after the required 3 real days of inactivity.
Updated the attack cost calculation process for cities to operate much faster.....usually. Currently for large empires it is very slow and often
times out while trying to calculate the total CF in an empire. Now it will simply update a stat every 4 hours with the total CF in the empire for empires
level 10 and above. This means that the first time you go to check on the attack cost for a city of a level 10+ empire it will be very slow (and
often time out). For the next 4 hours it will run very quikly, however. This also means that attack costs for large empires will only change every
4 hours instead of every time a city is taken like it is now. This should make little difference for larger empires, as battles are often slow and it
takes a long time to take enough infra from a large empire to alter the attack cost significantly. We continue to search for a much quicker overall
solution for this problem.
Fixed a bug with the required tech for researching AIV-T4's. Thank you to Krait for picking that out.
Game Change: Jump units may now only commit a remote para-drop attack after a full nevday of preparation. Any units which have been in battle for the
past nevday may not commit such an attack.
10/9/03
Updated the TC page to read the correct number of workers required (1080) for a TC. TC's have always used workers, but it was stated incorrectly
on this page.
New Feature: A new feature has been added to the Research page. This is a Tech Tree that will allow you to aim your research into a
more focused direction. Simply click on the Tree link and then choose accordingly. You will be told which of your currently researchable technologies
you should research to head towards your goal, as well as a vague estimate of how long it will take you to get there (subjective).
Fixed a problem on the "people with money" page which was not showing the proper unit.
The unit data readout in battle now once again shows hex coordinates for spotted enemy units.
Tower Scrapping: You may now scrap towers in zones with mines and get them back in your armoury for the next week. On 10/15/03
we will switch them back to a 50/50 chance. All towers in non-mine zones have normal 50% chance of being salvaged or saved.
Fixed a bug where ammo crits on Hunchie-H's were not working properly.
The problem with tower placement has been corrected.
Took out some code that directed people to the cheat log if they accessed the unit decription page incorrectly until I can figure out what is wrong.
Quests and tournaments are going to become increasingly more frequent as new systems are tested. There are 4 tournaments currently scheduled.
If all goes well, there will be many more in the future. Please check the tournament page frequently if you are interested in joining one.
10/8/03
New Feature: Emperor's and unit CO's may now enter personalized text into their unit readout pages. This will allow players to take notes,
write histories, and generally do cool stuff to help make their units more unique. Please remember to close all HTML tags and the characters #, %, and
& are NOT supported so you will get errors if you use them.
Added a check to the instant move page that prevents people from moving units to the zone they are currently in.
Fixed an error on the map page.
Allowances currently allow people to gain over $2 billion on funds on them which creates a SERIOUS bug that will erase all your empire funds.
Please monitor your people with allowances and prevent them from reaching $2 billion in cash on hand. We are working on a way to fix this in the
allowances allocation code.
Fixed a visual bug that was stating incorrect maintenance costs for uncommissioned mines.
10/7/03
New Player Q/A Session: There will be another Question and Answer session in the #neveron_newbies chat room Tuesday at
1 pm Arizona time (8 pm GMT). Wayward Son will be answering question about features and gameplay specfically targeted at empire
owners levels 4 and under. If you wish to take part, please enter the chat room (there is a link on the Comms page or download a free client
HERE) and join #neveron_newbies (type "/join #neveron_newbies"). The Q/A session will begin at 1 PM (8 pm GMT)
and last for 1 hour.
A level 6 empire was fined $1,000,000,000 for threatening another player with, I quote, "YOu going to pay the DP or I will consume your empire".
Demanding people spend real-life money to spare their imaginary empire from attack may be in a grey area in terms of actual legality,
but in Neveron the policy is clear. Threatening another player with ANYTHING unless they give you DP is absolutely illegal and will always
be punished when verified. If someone threatens you in this manner please make a copy of the message, PM, mail, etc, and submit it as a cheater report
for our investigation.
Fixed a visual bug with TC building progress.
Game Change: Units that have been out of battle for 3 days may now be shipped home from any enemy zone. This will help resolve problems
with units being stuck in restricted empires or empires wanting to peaceably let stuck units retreat home. All other restrictions on being in enemy
zone apply.
Fixed a problem with arena crossovers. This should solve most sources of arena crossover problems but if they persist we will look further
into it.
Login Security: We have said this many, many, many times and I guess I need to post it again. Please do NOT share your logins or passwords
with other people. If you share your logins you open up the risk that someone will use it against you, have it written down in a place another person can
find it, or have it simply shared with others. I get many help tickets from people with login problems that say things like "I don't understand what
happened as only gave my password to Jim, Bill and Sven." I have yet to see a credible example of a person's login being 'hacked.' If we are shown
ways that this can actually happen we will by all means correct them, but you NEED to keep your passwords to yourselves. There is an involved battleplayer
system as well as ways for pilot logins to control units, money and whatnot in your empires without giving out the emperor login. We are also working
on a "Emperor Privileges" system that will allow players to designate certain other logins with all the rights of the emperor login but still be able
to be removed.
Group Donations: Please folks, if you donate through another person we can not help you. We can only deal directly with the person who
donated, so if there is some sort of problem you need to talk with them and have them open a help ticket.
Began logging unit creation time for better bug tracking.
Updated market removal system to be logging all types and fixed some bugs with it.
Mine Change:Mine updates are complete. Reduced maintenance costs and startup fees have been implemented, and mines are now expiring and appearing
randomly. Again, for each mine that expires, a new one is placed (not necessarily in the same empire!). Each mine has 1 one percent chance
per real day of expiring.
Mine discovery messages given today very likely contain incorrect type information. Please check your mines page if you received a discovery
message to validate which type of mine you actually found.
Fixed a bug that was keeping people from removing items from the marketplace correctly.
New Donation Special: This weeks Donation Special is a level 3 repair facility with technicians. Please see the Donate page for details.
Please remember that Donation Specials are an "either/or" option. You can either choose the Donation Special OR Donation Points. Please remember to
include the login name, empire name and zone coords you would like the repair facility in.
Game Change: Mine startup costs will be dropping 80%. Mine maintenance costs will be dropping 20%. Mine expiration will average 100 real days from the
date of commission. New resource zones will appear exactly as often as old mines expire, often within existing empires (notifactions will be given).
These changes will be implemented today, or if difficulties are encountered, over the coming days.
Added an option to view people with money in your empire to the People
Faction Applications: When an empire applies to a faction now they AUTOMATICALLY get a Diplomatic Relations treaty with the faction
leader of the faction they applied to. This should help facilitate better communication between applicants and faction leaders. The DR is cancelled
when the applicant is accepted or denied. Applications already sent will NOT have this option.
10/6/03
Significantly increased the speed of a war query that was causing timeouts for large empires. It is still slow but it is usable. Currently
working on a solution that will speed it up even faster.
The empire settings page was moved to a normal link bar at the top of the empire page.
Fixed some repetitive errors on the tower creation page.
>Tournament: The tournament will start today at 1pm Arizona time (9 PM GMT). Please see the update from yesterday for details on
the tourney and how to enter.
New Player Q/A Session: There will be another Question and Answer session in the #neveron_newbies chat room Today at
3 pm Arizona time (10 pm GMT).
The Q/A sessions will begin at 3 PM (10 pm GMT)
and will last for 1 hour.
10/3/03
As you may have noticed faction leaders now have the option of setting their faction to an "actively recruiting" status that makes
the faction name come up bold red in the Directory.
Tournament: Please do not give your unit id to the admins until TOMORROW. Thanks.
There is a known bug that is restricting some empires when they should not be. We are currently working on it so please do not report it.
A new index was placed on the units table that should (among other things) greatly reduce lag on the map.
New Feature: A Submit Zone Coords feature has been implemented on the map page. You can now use the text boxes given to enter any
coords you like and the map will go straight there. Note that it does not make the new zone your active zone, and so you will still need to
click on the map to see the information about the zone.
ABR battles are running again and now ALAWYS check for plunder upon successful attacks, adjust morale, and do the other tasks associated
with a zone changing hands.
Added two new vehicle types, the TX-S2 and TX-L2 short and long-range missile tanks (respectively). These are significant upgrades
over the original TX-SRM and TX_LRM tanks while still being relatively easy to research and produce. They were debuted as quest opponents
last night where they performed extremely well, dropping countless elite assault mechs.
Small Empire Tournament Series: Since October is Month of the Newbie we will be holding a series of tournaments
this month geared towered newer players and smaller empires. Veteran players are strongly encouraged NOT to enter.
The first such tournament will be an open jeep tournament:
Starting at 1 PM Arizona time (9 pm GMT) on Friday, October 3rd.
No empire higher than level 4 may enter.
Any model jeep of any skill may enter, limit one per empire.
Last jeep standing format, whichever jeep is still alive at the end of the tourney wins.
In the case of a stalemate where units can no longer engage each other due to crits, the prize
will be split between all surviving contestants.
Prize is a Phoenix Hawk variant of winners choosing, or $100 million if there is a stalemate.
Contestants can enter by sending a personal message to Wayward Son or Randy in the chat room with the
id of the unit they wish to enter. ID's can be found on the unit's readout page (click its name).
Policy Change: Empire mergers will now be allowed for empires as long as their combined levels do not exceed 20. This means 2 level 9's
could merge or a level 12 and a level 8 but not 2 level 11's or a level 11 and a level 10.
Updated the Donate page to list the types of mechs you get with the donation starter option.
New Player Q/A Session: There will be another Question and Answer session in the #neveron_newbies chat room on Friday, October 3rd at
3 pm Arizona time (10 pm GMT). Wayward Son will be answering question about features and gameplay specfically targeted at empire
owners levels 4 and under. If you wish to take part, please enter the chat room (there is a link on the Comms page or download a free client
10/2/03
Fixed a bug that was causing some problem with duplicate faction applications now and again.
New Player Q/A Session: There will be another Question and Answer session in the #neveron_newbies chat room on Friday, October 3rd.
Wayward Son will be answering question about features and gameplay specfically targeted at empire
owners levels 4 and under. If you wish to take part, please enter the chat room (there is a link on the Comms page or download a free client
Faction Mail Bug: Some people are getting messages from factions they are not in or from empires they do not have alliance with. This is a
known problem and is being worked on. Please do not report it.
New Feature: Certain mechs have been designated as having usable hands or not. This will be an interesting new feature in upcoming
quests, and also dictates how much punching damage a unit can do with physical attacks in battle (already in use for a long time). The information
is listed on the unit readout page under Heat Sinks.
Day Change Income: Day changes are running into some problems which has caused some missed income and may cause a bit more here and there.
We are working hard on the problem and hope to have it ironed out as the new errors present themselves over the next couple days.
Fixed some problems with the "needed supplies" section of the tower creation page (under the Land/build tab). It should now show if weapons
are needed to create the tower in question. Additionally, the weapons needed for each tower will show properly. They were not showing if the
zone in question did not have any of them present.
There may be a quest later today. Please check the quest info page periodically if you are interested. Whether or not it happens will depend
on whether the preparatory work can be completed in a timely manner. If not, it will be tomorrow.
Mechs now display, in the structure section, whether or not it has usable hands. While this is not important now, it may be used in the
future.
Q/A Session: I am terribly sorry but due to technical difficulties I was unable to attend this mornings Q/A session in #neveron_newbies.
My apologies to those who showed for that. I WILL be at the 3 PM Session this afternoon (10 pm GMT). - Wayward Son
Updated the Donation Special to include a space for a login name on the Paypal side.
