  • Much thanks to Shadowmaster for his updates and what not these past couple months.
  • Donation Subscriptions: Active subscriptions from this month have been processed. I realize that there are many that are behind. Make sure you have ONE and only ONE recent ticket open about your subscription with "DP" in the subject and I will get to it as soon as I can (this week).
  • Kicked the training program back into action after an error and you should see all the results from any battles/training you've had or done.
  • Arena sim reported as down but appears to be working ok to me. Please report further problems.
  • Fixed a long standing but overlooked error with heat sinks being partially repaired.

    5/11/2009

  • Defense Merc Poll: Please take part in a poll about defense mercenaries on the forums. Click HERE to particpate.
  • Reciprocal Merc Contracts: You may no longer have reciprocal merc contracts.
  • Fixed an error with attacking from enemy zone that was created earlier today.
  • FWAR Declaration Change: To declare FWAR your faction must be made up of a minimum of 5 empires with the 4 non-faction leader empires comprising at least 50% of the total faction levels. This will be implemented on March 5th.
  • One City Rule: On March 19th the "one city rule" will go into effect. Any empire level 4+ that only has one city will automatically surrender with all the penalties associated with the surrender rate the currently have set. Additionally, they will receive a +1 skill penalty to all soldiers.
  • Logins with all emperor privileges should be able to store people now.
  • Mass Decommissioning Problems: Sometimes the units flagged for scrapping or decommissioning are removed from the queue for an unknown reason but they are NOT flagged as not being in the queue anymore. Clicking their scrap/decom status should correct all of the ones that you are having problems with and you can then reenter them into the queue. Please try this before opening a help ticket. Thanks.
  • Did some maintenance with the messages tables which should speed some things up significantly.
  • Added a better check to the building deletion process to prevent burning of buildings beyond the 20% loss mark.
  • Added some better OMT checks to the DOW process which should eliminate all loopholes in being able to DOW when you have OMT.

  • Windows Vista Users: Those of you who have begun to use Windows Vista will find that the initial registration attempt will fail to register your login key. Simply click the link addressed to Vista users on the page or wait 20 seconds and the page will refresh and try a different method, which should work properly.
  • The primary login can always claim the emperor by clicking the emperor (commander in chief) name at the top of the main page.
  • Streamlined a number of quick but needlessly often run queries on the main page which will result in hundreds less queries being run every minute.
  • Faction War Ending: The new factino war ending penalties have been enacted for running out time in the faction war as per previous updates. The faction of NC-UC ran out of time and the FWAR was ended with the losing faction receiving a 1 skill penalty on all their soldiers. Due to a glitch they also were charged the cash they would have normally paid had they lost due to surrender. All of that money was returned. Future faction wars that run out of time should not run into this problem.
  • Fixed a problem with units being taken out of training in battle but not getting reset to their pretraining skill levels. If you have units in training and their zone is attacked, they will be taken out of training to defend the zone but they will lose any skill gains from training.

  • Zones Incorrectly Claiming in Battle: I am currently working on this problem and would appreciate any details people have or theories about what may cause it. I have been able to produce it but not consistantly and will keep at it until it is fixed.
  • Corrected a problem with single units not in a lance hot dropping and always being placed at 1, 1.
  • Fixed several problems with renaming zones, zone flags that don't belong to you and some other little stuff not worth mentioning.
  • Set up maintenance procedures for cancelled alliances and some other tables that were filling up space needlessly.
  • New Feature: Added a colorblindness setting to the Settings section of the Empire tab for people who have trouble differentiating between the zones belonging to their empire and unclaimed zones. The setting will toggle the green (unclaimed) zones to be white instead.
  • Fixed a problem with people getting repeated messages about mech upgrade kit technology being completed. You don't actually need to tool your facilities to research this since it is 0 RP. When you complete the prereqs it will automatically be awarded to you.
  • Zone doublers will list individually on the donate page from now on. Previously they had been grouped together, skewing the expiration dates. If you have multiple doublers on the same zone they will be listed as seperate entries.

  • Downtime: There was about 10 hours of downtime this morning and last night due to our ISP doing a router swap. I called them this morning and apparently they didn't do the config quite right and so there were some things left out, including us. They corrected the problem and we are back online. They did not inform me that they were going to be doing this kind of maintenance and so I was out of town for the night with my girlfriend for our Valentines's Day celebration. I have requested that in the future they inform me before these types of maintenance programs are executed so that I can keep a better eye out for problems.

  • Cleaned out a lot of large tables with obsolete data and set up some maintenance routines for others. The market logs in particular should be very fast compared to what they were, and all transactions that deal with the market logs will be much quicker, including simply purchasing things.
  • Lots of database maintenance today and thus likely a lot of lag.

    2/12/2007

  • Reengineered the vehicle production list on the Factories page to list them in alphabetical order.
  • You can now store skill 6 unassigned soldiers. Also added stored soldiers to the military supply tax which should have been done when the feature was introduced. I will likely be adding incrementally higher charges for having large numbers of soldiers stored. I can not overstate how much having things like unused soldiers just sitting around adds to overall database troubles. There are 100 empires with over 1,000 stored soldiers with the most outrageous empire being Team Banzai. Team Banzai has over 12,000 unassigned soldiers, and over 33,000 more soldiers stored. This is a total of more than 45,000 unassigned people in one empire and numerous other empires are scoring well in to the 20,000 range. If people want to hang on to massive stores of unassigned soldiers they need to pay an extra fee to offset the loss in database performance. For now the standard military supply cost will be applied and any other changes will be announced.

    2/9/2007

  • You can not longer have more than 500 unassigned people to use the Soldiers section of the Training tab. Some empires have well over one, five and even ten thousands unassigned soldiers which is causing a huge amount of lag both in their empires and gamewide. Please store your unassigned soldiers unless you plan on using or training them right away. The Store People button on the Unassigned section of the People page will do this quickly, safely and easily.
  • Fixed an error while declaring war.
  • Fixed a problem with ammo not showing up properly on the Parts page.
  • I believe I found the problem that has people asserting that ABR gets 'stuck' for hours at a time. I had gotten these reports and monitored ABR but not seen any problems. Thanks to The Ultimate Empire for getting at me with some key information today. There are rare instances where a battle will be flagged for ABR, thus preventing anyone from entering. The battle then resolves but there is an error and the victorious units are not updated but the entry that ABR uses to recognize that there is a battle IS updated, so ABR doesn't see there is a battle to resolve there. All it would take to resolve would be a player entering the battle to run the timer for a round but since the battle is flagged for ABR nobody is allowed to enter and a catch 22 results. I have added code that will check for these instances and should resolve when someone tries to enter the battle and so this should no longer happen. Thanks to everyone for their patience with this issue, I know it has been frustrating for all.
  • Truncated another large log which will reduce database load.

    2/8/2007

  • Fixed an error that was causing a huge amount of database lag and also preventing some people from seeing the empire intel page for certain empires.
  • Fixed a rare error with the FWAR autocorrection code put in yesterday that was preventing some people from seeing empire readout pages.
  • Tried to put in the red border around the active zone on the map but because of table border coding issues this is going to not work or at least require a significant more amount of time to work out than I am currently willing to spend. Instead I am testing out a system where the active square is a slightly different color than it would normally be. Feedback is welcome.
  • Fixed a very rare bug that would have allowed mercs to declare war on empires smaller than them in specific and unlikely cases.
  • Removed the report error button from the error page when the error is a timeout. Timeouts and deadlock are simply from heavy database traffic and should not be reported unless they happen on the the same page for a long period of time, meaning many tries over several days.

    2/7/2007

  • Fixed an error with mechs being destroyed by heat that was not allowing the destruction to occur and showing an error message.
  • Cleaned out a lot of ghost entries for certain buildings that were causing some job consistancy issues in certain empires. The results should show after the next daychange.
  • Bug Abuse: It has come to my attention that people have been maliciously, even gleefully taking advantage of problems such as the FDOW surrender change bug to inflict well beyond normal damage to enemy empires. This kind of behavior is in no way acceptable and will be the focus of significant attention by me. If you see a problem like this you should IMMEDIATELY open a help ticket and explain the issue, not joyfully exploit it to your advantage.
  • Added an autoupdate to the Wars page that will correct the +1,000% change since beginning of FWAR problems. Also added it to the empire intel page so that anyone seeing the problem will automatically correct it. I am also continuing to look for the root of the problem in the FDOW code so that it can be stopped at the source.
  • Truncated a massive table used to log unit placement in battle and set up a routine to keep it relatively short (meaning still huge but realistic).
  • Fixed a bug that was allowing TC's to be built after Industrial Complex I was researched and bypassing the actual TC research item. Thank you to Baileys Privateers for reporting this.

    2/6/2007

  • Lag: Due to some database research and maintenance there will likely be some lag for the next hour or two.
  • Mergers: Worked though a short backlog of empire merger requests. Please note that if you do not have enough DP onhand to process them it will be cancelled.
  • Admin Lag: I want to apologize for the lack of updates recently. I have been extremely distracted recently as I have found out that I am going to be a father. This is an exciting change but as you can understand it required a brief period of attention while I rearranged most of my life to plan for this. I am back in the office and hammering though work so expect me to be much more active. Thanks for your support!

    2/5/2007

  • Fixed a problem with many weapon types not showing properly on the Parts page.
  • Cleaned out some more logs to reduce database size and increase speed.
  • Upcoming FWARs: I am again requesting that people give me a heads up if they are planning on declaring an FWAR so that I can debug. There are still some issues with wars being cancelled and such that I need to work out. If you are planning on declaring FWAR please open a help ticket so that I can work with you. Thanks. Faction leaders only please!
  • Fixed a rare error with newer empires turning off their tutorials.
  • Fixed a rare ABR bug that was hanging up the system sometimes.
