Much thanks to Shadowmaster for his updates and what not these past couple months.
Donation Subscriptions: Active subscriptions from this month have been processed. I realize that there are many that are behind. Make sure
you have ONE and only ONE recent ticket open about your subscription with "DP" in the subject and I will get to it as soon as I can
(this week).
Kicked the training program back into action after an error and you should see all the results from any battles/training you've had
or done.
Arena sim reported as down but appears to be working ok to me. Please report further problems.
Fixed a long standing but overlooked error with heat sinks being partially repaired.
5/11/2009
More of the same. All day yesterday we focused entirely on database performance issues, and will do the same today.
12/18/03
Lots more lag improvements today. We are slowly working through it and bug tickets have taken a back seat to lag work, as lag is clearly the
single largest source of bugs and game issues.
Shout out to DJ Dex in the Bronx! South Bronx...big up South South Bronx!
A lot of significant back-end changes have been made to increase performance today.
Added a slight amount of rare earth resource required to produce mech armor and a slight amount of radioactives needed to produce mech internal
structure.

Mail Tips: We have begun mailing out tips mails again and are currently working on a series about dueling by veteran NGC champion
Dragion of The First Circuit. To subscribe simply click the "Tips" link on the Comms page and you will be prompted to enter your email address.
Your adddress will not be given out to anyone and the mailings are 100% advertisment and spam free. Note that the
Gift Certificates: Coded the infrastructure for redeeming donation gift certificates. You can now go to the Donate page with your certificate code and
enter it there. You may then take an amount of your choosing off the certificate and add it to your login. This facilitates people using
one certificate on several logins. All certificates expire after 1 real year, and any Donation Points still on them is lost. Gift certificates can
be obtained by clicking the obvious link on the Donate page by either mail or Paypal. There is a $3.50 fee to help cover shipping and printing costs.
Empire morale rank now updates daily, like all the other rankings.
I am continuing to focus only on battle performance today. As before, I will not post individual updates.
Fixed the OMT problem empires with stabled mechs were experiencing. Logging in again will correct it.
Began logging resource plunder to try to figure out what exactly is wrong. All folks with resources of less than 0 were set to 0.

I'm going to stop listing individual speed enhancemnts, because I'm making a lot of them, and its silly to say the same thing
over and over. As you can tell, performance is being radically enhanced today, and will hopefully continue to be improved over the coming week.
Sped up the login process dramatically, which will in turn speed the entire game since people are always logging in.
Rewrote the code checking for heat effects and mech shutdowns which should help substantially in large battles.
Moved MORE code to the webserver.
Migrated some code from the database to the web server to improve performance
Sped up a query causing excess lag during the attack phase of huge battles
Sped up the top 100 units by reputation top 100 list which was a surpsiringly large source of lag
Changed the zone attack cost forumla slightly for large empires to speed up the attack pages.
Fixed a laggy query when hot-dropping on large empires

A new login attribute has been added, allowing you to give the ability to place towers to secondary logins.
NevCon Clarification: Players of all ages are welcome, but alcohol will be present and you must be 21 to drink.
Attacking Empires Level 10+: The first time every 4 hours that the empire has attack costs calculated on it will be very slow, often
causing many timeouts. Once you get this cost establishes, however, it will be very, very fast. Please just keep refreshing the page after you click
the red "Attack" button and work through the process. After you get through it once there won't be any problems for 4 hours.
NevCon: New Hampshire! That's right Nevfans! It is time for the 2nd Annual NevCon: New Hampshire.
We have all kinds of exciting things planned for you this year, a new venue, and an exciting new mech tournament format. All players are welcome!
There is free lodging, shuttles from airports, food, drink and prizes for all. Click the NevCon link on the Admin page for details.
A registration option is available just to help us get an idea of how many people are going to be attending. People needing rides from the airport
should contact Chetter at (603)-224-8077 and he or his minions will handle it.
Added the Raven mech type to the research tree. Empires under level 20 need not worry about that.
Donations will be getting a review of their DP value this week and next, so please expect changes to any Donation items.
Fixed another slow query on the attack_zone_prep page.
Fixed a slow query on the research page, 92 timouts per day.
Fixed a slow query in ABR, cutting out 200 timeouts per day.
Found another really laggy war related query and sped it way up.
Fixed a bug that was not checking for a state of war between two empires during hotdrops.
LEVEL 0 MONEY LIMIT There are still 317 level 0 empires over the $25,000,000 limit which was to go in effect 2 weeks ago.
This limit will be imposed TOMORROW! If you are level 0 and have over $25,000,000 you'd best spend it or
get to level 1, because as of tomorrow it will be gone.
Fixed a lag-intensive query when attacking zones of large empires, which should eliminate approximately 400 timeouts daily.
Shortened the resource market to show the cheapest 20.
12/10/03
Low mech piloting skill relative to gunnery skill now increases BV more than it used to.
Adjusted the BVs of several mech, vehicle, and infantry types due to lopsided dueling results. Several types are still known to be flawed,
but we're awaiting more results before deciding on their new values.
Fixed and clarified some things with claiming zones from level 0 empires.
Worked out a couple bugs with the new empire restrictions that had been overlooked.
The sell equipment secondary login permission is now working.
Two new permissions have been added for secondary logins. The Set Research option is tested and working.
12/9/03
Quotations: Quotations in empire names are not allowed and HIGHLY DISCOURAGED in the names of people and units. The quotes create all
kinds of problems on various pages. We do as much quote correction as we can, but if you have quotes in your people names or unit names and you have
a bug, please take the quotes out first. This often fixes the problem.
Login Security: A large empire was accessed in the past 24 hours by players that were at war with it and massive amounts of its army
were deleted using the emperor login. An intensive investigation was launched by both Admins and we have concluded that it was very clearly a result
of the login and password having been openly given out to people. The login name was known by perhaps a dozen people, and then when the password
was changed at the beginning of the war, it was the announced to a chat room full of players. A couple players managed to get both of the pieces of
information through various sources and then logged into the empire and deleted much of the towers and vehicles in the empire.
We have said many, many times before that your password is your responsibility. Electronic hacking is taken extremely serisouly by us and the sole
time that this has happened the lost items were replaced. Every other time it has been extremely clear that the security compromise was due to
players freely giving out their passwords. DO NOT GIVE OUT YOUR PASSWORD. There are multiple features in place (battleplayers and player logins)
that fully facilitate the running of an empire in war time with only 1 person knowing the emperor login. It is understandable that in very large
empires this becomes especially cumbersome, which is why logins can now have specific privileges (sending money, attacking) to allow them to handle
things without the emperor being online. More of these features will be implemented when we have time.
We have decided to implement a new system that will prevent an empire from deleting more than about 10% of their empire's BV or infrastructure in a
24 hour period. This will allow players the freedom to manage their empires while both allowing their enemies the ability to create havoc if the
login changes hands and preventing people from burning their empires to the ground in the path of an advancing army. This of course will NOT prevent
people from getting a password, accessing the empire and simply changing the password. This is why you need to not give out your password
at all.
This had been shaping up to be a very productive day for us but instead we spent fully half of it investigating, arguing and dealing with this situation.
It is a waste of our time and takes a lot of the fun out of the game when things like this happen. Be careful with your logins, and if you are not
careful with them be honest about it. If you spread your password around, even to people you think you can trust, EXPECT it to be abused. Players in
this game are constantly trading sides, holding grudges and misleading each other. There isn't any logging we can implement or rules we can add that
will change that.
Improper Donations: Occaisionally a person will give the improper login, or spell a login improperly and the wrong login will get DP that
is coming to another login. Players that report getting DP they should not have are usually given some DP, while players that use the DP are fined to
make up for the clearly unfair advantage that they got. Please report DP that you did not have coming to you. Honesty is always rewarded. Thanks.
Upcoming change! The Nemesis mech is going to be changed to 4/6/4 movement. This change will happen 1 week from today. At that time (not before!),
anyone wishing to get rid of their Nemesis may trade it in for DP for the amount they got it for, by sending a donations help ticket.
Changed the program which determines if moves are overland or require an LC. Large empires were incorrectly often requiring LC moves for all moves.
We slacked big time on updates last week, but a lot of stuff got done. Here is a brief list of some of the more important ones:
-Fixed a bug that was giving negative resources in war plunder
-Completely debugged the new restrictions system and it appears to be working quite well.
-Fixed a truly heinous bug that was giving pilots unending skilldown checks after battle.
-Sent out our first ever Neveron Gift Certificate.
-Judging from the relative stability of the game, we have worked out the vast majority of the issues with our servers getting
hung up by the new security software.
The following update is a work-in-progress, is subject to change and has not yet been implemented.
Pirates: Probably the thing (other than bug tickets) that we spent the most time on last week. Massive progress was made in our
upcoming automated pirate (arr!) attacks. For those of you who are unaware of this new feature, pirates are going to be an interesting and dynamic
new feature that will encourage players to better understand combat in the game, balance their empires and protect themselves. Randomized pirate
attacks, based on the level of your empire, will take place about once a week. The force willl always be defeatable by a balanced empire of your
size, but the power will range from absurdly easy to quite challenging (with a significant curve keeping it moderate). Attacks may happen in one
spot or spread out over different parts in your empire.
While complete details are yet unavailable, people should know that the pirates will NOT be
some unstoppable force that is coming to completely destroy their empire. They will most likely buy a drop zone and begin heading for a city. After
each zone is conquored they will pause before attacking the next zone, giving defenders time to move forces to defeat them (or move vulnerable forces
out of the way) as well as time to get online and get organized. If they do conquor a city, they will most likely simply sit on the city for a time, and
then split their forces. Part of the force will head for a new city while the others defend their loot. When pirates capture a city they will do larger
than normal plunder damage to the structures.
Pirates can be bought off preemptively for an as yet to be determined fee. This means that if you plan
on going on vacation or simply do not have time/resources to fight them, you can buy them off ahead of time and avoid having to deal with them. We are
also continuing to implement a comprehensive player login system so that others can easily log into empires of their friends/allies and defend them
against attacks. This will be particularly necessary in larger empires, as large empires will need many pilots to assist in their defense. Estimates
on an attacking force (which was usually broken into a dozen or so seperate attack squads) for Kizo Major was typically in the 200k-400k BV range.
While this is a huge force to be reckoned with, Kizo Major has nearly 9 MILLION BV, which means that the majority of the pirate force could easily
be defeated by simply putting a battalion or two of vehicles in a zone and letting ABR run. More vicious elements of the attack force would probably
need to be piloted against, which is an excellent opportunity for players to learn battle skills, get experience, and most importantly have a LOT of
fun.
Empires that have their armies mobilized will have a reduced chance of pirate attack, dependant on how much of their income is used by the mobilization.
This is to help prevent empires that are currently engaged in war from having to worry about pirate attacks, which would clearly be cumbersome to player
versus player wars, which are always more fun.
All in all this will keep the number of 'junk' empires in the game low, making it very difficult for anyone to manage more empires than they are capable
of defending against pirates. When pirates are implemented we will lift the current 5 empire ban. It will probably force empires to be more
geographically concious, instead of having unprotected cities scattered all over the map they will want to build and conquor cities in their immediate
areas, thus making them more defensible against a pirate threat. We have encountered many players who know literally nothing about combat and war in
the game, which we agree is an enigmatic part of the game and scary/confusing to get involved in. This will provide newer players (level 1 and up)
an opportunity to learn about combat. More help files will clearly be implemented as well.
Bugs: There is a known bug with troop transport where it will require you to airlift units when they should move overland. This is being
worked on so please do not report it.
12/8/03
Fixed vehicle unit skills which had erroneously been reporting lower-than-correct skills.
Fixed another lag source when attacking zones.
Fixed a bug which was not charging people from remote attacks.
Fixed a major source of lag and server crashes.
12/2/03
Fixed a problem which was making peoples units skill down forever after fighting a battle.
Made some adjustments to some of the routines with entering battle when you attack from the map.
MPOGD: Thanks to all who voted at MPOGD last month. We appreciate your efforts and all of Neveron has benefitted from your work. Let's
make December equally as good!
